Mazda CX-90, October 2026: the rate is worth more than the cash, unless you put a lot down

Market Signals are editorial, not offers. Each reports what a manufacturer published, or what we observed, on the date shown. Terms, eligibility and availability are set by the manufacturer and the selling dealer.

Mazda is giving buyers of a new 2026 CX-90 a choice through November 2, 2026: $3,500 Customer Cash, or 0% APR for up to 60 months through Mazda Financial Services. On the CX-90 PHEV, the plug-in hybrid, the choice is $5,000 Customer Cash or 0% for up to 72 months. Mazda says the cash does not combine with its special APR, so taking the rate gives up $3,500 on the CX-90 and $5,000 on the PHEV. Current Mazda owners in California can add a Mazda Loyalty Reward to either route: $1,500 on the CX-90 and $750 on the PHEV.

The rate is for very well-qualified buyers, and Mazda's terms say not all customers will qualify. The car must be delivered from dealer stock by November 2.

Which route costs less depends on how much is financed and on the rate the buyer could get elsewhere. Our arithmetic on Mazda's terms, financing a trim's starting price plus Mazda's $1,645 destination charge in full: 0% costs less than taking the cash unless the buyer could borrow below about 3.6% on the least expensive CX-90 and 3.2% on the 3.3 Turbo Preferred, falling to 2.4% on the most expensive. On the PHEV, the line runs from about 3.4% to 2.9%. Experian's Q2 2026 data puts the average new-car rate at 4.41% for super prime borrowers and 6.15% for prime. Both sit above every one of those lines, so for a buyer financing the whole car, the rate is ahead on every trim.

The line moves with the loan. Financing $30,000 of a CX-90, after a large down payment or a trade, raises it to about 5%; at $25,000 it is about 6.1%. A buyer with super prime credit financing that little may do better with the cash, and a buyer paying cash takes the $3,500 or $5,000.

The CX-90 seats up to eight, and the PHEV adds an electric range of 26 miles. California's MyFirstEV incentive does not reach the PHEV: the California Air Resources Board does not treat plug-in hybrids as zero-emission vehicles, because they have gasoline engines.

The Oracle take

The size of the cash alternative against the loan decides a 0% offer, and on the CX-90 it is small. Giving up $3,500 on a $45,000 CX-90 costs less than five years of interest at Experian's average rates for strong credit, so a buyer financing most of the price should start with the 0%. It is the opposite of what we found on the Kia Niro EV, where $6,500 of cash on a $40,000 car outweighed the rate. The test works on any 0% offer: set the cash given up against the interest on your own quote over the same term. Get a quote from your bank or credit union first, add the Loyalty Reward if you own a Mazda now, and decide before November 2.

Questions about this signal

Can I get 0% APR and the Customer Cash on a 2026 Mazda CX-90?

No. Through November 2, 2026, Mazda offers the 2026 CX-90 with either $3,500 Customer Cash or 0% APR for up to 60 months through Mazda Financial Services, and says the cash is not combinable with its special APR. Current Mazda owners can add the $1,500 Mazda Loyalty Reward to either.

Does the Mazda CX-90 PHEV qualify for MyFirstEV?

No. The California Air Resources Board says plug-in hybrids are not eligible as zero-emission vehicles because they have gasoline engines. Mazda's own offer on the 2026 CX-90 PHEV is $5,000 Customer Cash or 0% APR for up to 72 months, through November 2, 2026.

Does Mazda's 0% APR apply to a CX-90 lease?

No. The 0% is a financing rate through Mazda Financial Services, and Mazda's Customer Cash does not combine with its lease programs. Mazda publishes separate lease programs on both models, and its $750 Lease to Lease Loyalty Reward for returning Mazda lessees cannot be combined with Customer Cash or APR incentives.
